How do I change certification type (test limits)?

KB02 Changing Cable Certification Types (Test Limits) - Knowledge Base Article #2

This article describes the process of changing the cable certification type (test limits) used in a project. This process also applies to cable Qualification+ testing when using AEM’s Network Service Assistant (NSA). The main reasons you might want to modify the cable certification type include:

  • Matching the appropriate test with the performance of installed cabling. For example, if you are installing a Cat 6 system, you’d want to test it to meet Cat 6 requirements.
  • Testing an unknown link to see if it meets desiried requirements. For example, if you inherited a cabling system with no records, and needed Cat5e performance, you could run Cat 5e Autotest to ensure the cabling meets your needs. Application-based limits are also available, for 1G and multigigabit Ethernet for example.
  1. From the home screen, select Project.
  2. From the Project Details screen, select Edit Test Profile.
  3. From the Profile screen, select Limit.

  4. From the Limit screen, use the up/down arrow and/or scroll bar to select your desired test standard (TIA-568.2-D in this example).
  5. Select the test type based on the test adapter type (Channel shown here).
  6. Select the desired Limit based on the category, Cat6A in the example. The down/up arrows and/or scroll bar can be used to view additional Channel limits.

  7. From the Profile screen you will now see the limit has been changed to TIA-568.2-D Cat 6A Channel in this case.
  8. Press the rubber HOME button if you wish to return to the Home screen.

*Important note: Except in rare circumstances, the cable and connector type should match the cable test limit. For example, if Cat6A test limit is selected, the cable and connector should also be Cat6A.
