KB01 Changing Cable or Connector Types with TestPro or NSA - Knowledge Base Article #1
This article describes the process of changing the cable type used in a project. The same process is used to change connector type, except the initial selection is Connector instead of Cable. This process is the same with both TestPro and Network Service Assistant (NSA). The main reasons you might want to modify the cable type include:
- Having the stored test results show the actual cable type tested
- Ensuring accurate length measurements. Every cable has a unique Nominal Velocity of Propagation (NVP), which impacts how accurately length is computed. If you select the actual cable being tested your NVP will be correct leading to best results on length measurements.
- From the home screen, select Project.
- From the Project Details screen, select Edit Test Profile.
- From the Profile screen, select Cable. (to change connector, select Connector instead.
- From the Details of Cable screen, select Edit
- From the Cables screen, use the down/up arrows and/or scroll bar to navigate the list and select your desired supplier or Generic from the options in the database.
- Navigate the list of cables by using the down/up arrows and/or scroll bar to find the one you need, select it and click Save.
- From the Details of Cable screen, you will now see the Cable type has changed to Belden 10GX32 in this example. Press the back button.
- In the Profile screen, you will see that the cable selection has been updated. Press the rubber HOME button if you wish to return to the Home screen.
