KB30 - Why Can't I Save Tests On My Remote?
Your old tester of another brand allowed you to save tests from the Remote instead of having to go back to the Main to save the tests. This is a big time saver when compared to TestPro which only saves on the Main unit, especially when testing a lot of cable drops by yourself….OR IS IT REALLY?
Let’s take a look at the process and compare the two methods. We’ll use some arbitrary assumed times for parts of the process which apply to both methods/testers. We will also assume saving of test is done using manual selection of Label ID.
- Tester A process:
- Main unit connected to patch panel port, then user walks to the telecommunications outlet on the other end of the link and connects the remote and runs the test. Time assumption:
- Walk to the T.O. is 2 minutes
- Autotest time is 15 seconds (varies from 9 to 20 seconds depending on tester and settings)
- Time to save the test is 10+/- seconds
- Time to move the remote to the next T.O. to be tested is 20 seconds (could be more/less depending on where it is)
- Walk back to Main unit at patch panel and connect to next port to be tested is 2 minutes (same as walk out at beginning)
- Total time = 4 minutes 45 seconds
- TestPro process:
- Main unit connected to patch panel port, then user walks to the telecommunications outlet on the other end of the link and connects the remote and runs the test. Time assumption:
- Walk to the T.O. is 2 minutes
- Autotest time is 6 seconds
- Once test is completed and the Pass is seen on the remote, we move the remote to the next telecommunications outlet to be tested. Time to move the remote to the next T.O. to be tested is 20 seconds (could be more/less depending on where it is)
- Walk back to Main unit at patch panel is 2 minutes
- Time to save test is 10+/- seconds.
- Connect to next port to be tested.
- Total time = 4 minutes 36 seconds. The shorter time for TestPro is due to the faster 6-second Autotest. All other times are the same. The ability to save on remote has no impact on time savings. The 6-second Autotest is a huge time saver, however, when testing a large number of drops.
